Aug 31 2024 – Garlic Festival etc

Here’s my day today. It was a good one.

Picked up Steve (as in Ann and Steve) who are staying at the ‘cottage’ (Ben and Robyn’s), then picked up Sandra at the Bellrock Road parking area. We went to the Garlic Festival at the Verona Lions. Somewhat rainy, but there was a good crowd there. It’s amazing how many varieties of garlic there are, and how little I know about them! Some varieties are better for cooking and some better eaten raw. Here’s a link to a Garlic gardening site. We bought lots: Armenian (!), Rocambole, Music, Porcelain and some others I think.

Anyway, after the Garlic Fest, Sandy and I returned to the kitchen to eat delicious salmon loaf (made by SL) and salad. That wasn’t enough kitchen time for today though.

Lunch was followed up by processing a 1/2 bushel of Roma tomatoes, making some tomato sauce and freezing a bunch. Then made chicken broth. Then chimichurri sauce.

Still getting ready for the Big Trip!
